Anthony Gordon's Chelsea transfer stance revealed as Blue make improved £45 million bid to Everton

Anthony Gordon's Chelsea transfer stance revealed as Blue make improved £45 million bid to Everton

Chelsea have made a second bid worth £45 million for Everton winger Anthony Gordon, according to reports.

Chelsea have made a second bid worth £45 million for Everton winger Anthony Gordon, according to reports.

Thomas Tuchel has identified the 21-year-old as a transfer target this summer, with an initial bid already said to have been rejected.

Chelsea saw their initial £40 million offer declined by Everton, with Frank Lampard’s side thought to value their youngster at closer to £50 million.

It was reported that Chelsea are seeking a right-sided player to compete with Reece James for the wing-back role this summer, and Gordon has been identified as a ‘top candidate’ for this role at Chelsea.

Speaking regarding further reinforcements this summer, Tuchel hinted at more movement in the transfer market for his side.

He said: “I think we could use and strengthen our squad in depth and strength in both.

“It’s one thing what you wish for and another what is possible. It needs to be possible.

“We are looking for top quality, top personalities, good characters and competitors on the highest levels.

“You don’t always get what you wish for and that’s why we are calm and ambitious at the same time.

"Quite some days to go until the end of the transfer period. Everything is possible until the end.”

It now appears that Chelsea will attempt to make Gordon their latest signing this transfer window.

As reported by David Maddock of The Daily Mirror, Chelsea have made a new £45 million approach for the winger.

Furthermore, Gordon has indicated to Lampard that he is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge and wants Everton to consider the offer.

This could hand Chelsea a boost in their pursuit of the 21-year-old, with the Blues knowing that if a fee can be agreed, Gordon is open to the move.

However, journalist Tom Roddy has reported that it is likely that the new bid from Chelsea will be rejected by Everton, who are keen to keep Gordon this season.

It remains unclear as to whether Chelsea would be willing to improve their offer for Gordon and come closer to Everton’s £50 million valuation, but with the Toffees having lost both their opening matches of the season, they could look to keep their start.

Lampard’s side have struggled in front of goal, with a Lucas Digne own goal the only one scored for Everton in their first two matches of the season.
