Hull City 'Given Encouragement' By Chelsea Over Summer Transfer For Nathan Baxter

Hull City 'Given Encouragement' By Chelsea Over Summer Transfer For Nathan Baxter

Nathan Baxter could be set for a return to Hull City next season.

Hull City’s pursuit of Chelsea goalkeeper Nathan Baxter has stepped up a level after they were given encouragement of a deal this summer, according to reports.

Baxter could make a move back to the Championship next term, as Hull City continue their quest to try to re-sign him from the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Having spent last season on loan with Hull, he 16 appearances in the Championship in 2021-2022, piling up seven clean sheets in those games.

Those numbers saw him return the third best percentage of anyone in the league who played more than ten times, a return to the MKM Stadium again next season could be on the cards.

As reported by Hull Live, his performances have impressed the Tigers to try to bring him back and they believe they are the front-runners to land the 23-year-old from Chelsea

He would face competition for the number one spot if he were to make the move after Matt Ingram signed a new three-year deal.

When asked about whether being number one was a key priority, Ingram shared: “One hundred percent, you look at last year and I think there was only one (Championship) team that used one goalkeeper the whole of the season.

"Doing that is becoming tougher and tougher.

“But without a shadow of a doubt, I want to nail down the number one spot and keep it all season if I can.”

Showing respect to Baxter, he added: “If it is Nathan, then that is great as we have worked together before and we got on really well.”

For the Tigers it is important that they can get a deal over the line for a goalkeeper this summer after recently losing the services of Harvey Cartwright to Peterborough United.

It remains unclear as to whether the deal in question would be permanent or just a loan, but with just a year left on Baxter’s contract in west London, his future is in question.

Hull have been ‘given encouragement’ over a potential transfer and are likely to continue their pursuit in the hope of striking an agreement, whether that be on loan again or for a permanent deal.

With the recent drama surrounding ownership at Chelsea, the move had been thrown off course, but with the takeover from the consortium led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake, City have been given a boost in this saga.

Hull City returned to training on Monday at Cottingham for pre-season, so if they want Baxter to be a part of their plans early on, they need to try and get the deal over the line as soon as possible.

Chelsea signed Eddie Beach from Southampton to fill the void in their Development side after Lucas Bergström's loan move to Peterborough United was confirmed.
