Patrick Mahomes led an amazing fightback as the Kansas City Chiefs won their second ever Super Bowl on Sunday night.

The electrifying quarterback led his team back from 10 points down in the fourth quarter to beat the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in Miami.

The 49ers defence looked to have bottled up Mahomes and set their team on the way to their sixth Super Bowl crown.

But Mahomes showed why he's the future of the NFL with flashes of brilliance in the fourth quarter to pick apart the San Francisco defence.

The Chiefs led 7-3 after the first quarter thanks to Mahomes' one-yard rushing touchdown to round off a 15-play, 75-yard drive.

It was otherwise a rough night for Mahomes and he was picked off twice by the 49ers defence before his late rally.

A 31-yard Harrison Butker field goal at the start of the second quarter extended the lead to 10-3 before San Francisco took over.

Garoppolo found Juszczyk for a 15-yard touchdown pass to tie the score at 10-10 heading into half-time.

After a show-stopping display from Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, the 49ers looked to have pulled away in the third quarter.

A Mahomes interception in the third quarter led to a six-play, 55-yard drive and a touchdown run from Mostert to put San Francisco 20-10 ahead.

Time was running out for 24-year-old Mahomes as he looked to have met his match in the 49ers' impressive defence.

With nine minutes to play, Mahomes led the Chiefs on an 83-yard drive and found Travis Kelce for the touchdown to pull within three points.

And on the Chiefs' next possession, Mahomes found Damien Williams, who dived into the corner of the end zone for a touchdown.

And a late Damien Williams touchdown run sealed the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the Chiefs at Hard Rock Stadium.

Mahomes is set to be the face of the NFL for the next decade and could be back in the Super Bowl for years to come.

He said: "They have an amazing defence, one of the best I have come up against in my career so far.

"We weren't playing at a high level and executing in the first half but I'm glad my guys came good in the end."
