How A Drunken Bet Earned This Tipsy Punter Upwards Of $600,000

Has there ever been a more lucky sequence of events?

One drunken bloke has somehow managed to come back from a day on the punt $621,840 richer.

Incredibly, he managed to win the $600k on a bet that he wasn't even meant to place.

Let us explain.

According to racenet.com.au, one Aussie punter was betting on the horses at Newcastle over the weekend with a few pals when an innocuous bet landed him the jackpot.

The person in question was looking to place a $60 bet on a five-horse box quinella.

If you don't know already, a quinella is when you pick any two horses in a race but they must finish as the first two horses across the line.

But then there is a multiple quinella (which is what this punter lucked out on).

According to TAB, in a multiple quinella "you can put as many horses in the two boxes as you want. You may place three horses to finish first or second, and five other horses to run only second. You win the bet if one of the three horses you had to finish first or second wins, and any one of the remaining seven horses in your bet must fill the second spot."

Sounds complicated, right? Bare with us.

To break it down, the bloke selected Amorita ($35), Keiai Tsubaki ($19), Dodecanese ($6.50), Mosht Up ($41) and Opinions ($151) on his bet slip, meaning his box quinella numbers were 8, 10, 11, 13, 14.

Just remember, these horses were complete and utter roughies (punting terminology for an outsider).

But after having a long day on the punt (and the p***) with his mates, the bloke made a slight error when entering his bet.

Instead of putting down $600 (still a lot of money, by the way) the punter accidentally added another 0 and ended up with a $6000 bet.

While he was probably gutted at the time, it wasn't long before that cock-up worked in his favour.

With Amorita's victory, the bloke miraculously hit the quinella and quickly checked his results to see $621,840 sitting in his account.

Had he of not added the 0 on the end, he still would have ended up with just over $62,000.

But thanks to his drunken state (and inability to type correctly) he ended up with a six-figure balance.
