An Australian news reporter had a slight slip of the tongue this morning and the end result is an absolute classic.

The Project's Tony Armstrong was discussing Aussie cricket captain Tim Paine's recent neck injury which could see him go under the knife to fix it.

But instead of saying Paine was suffering from a "bulging disc", Armstrong said something entirely different which also begins with "D".

"Skipper Tim Paine is set to undergo neck surgery, but medical staff remain confident he'll be fit for The Ashes," Armstrong said on the bulletin.

"Paine has a bulging d**k that has been... disc!"

Realising his honest mistake, Armstrong quickly back-pedalled and made light of the situation.

"That's a funny one," he added while chuckling.

Armstrong was probably hoping to forget about his blunder quickly, but unfortunately for him his ABC News colleagues were on hand to grill him about it later in the segment.

"A bulging what? Disc?" co-host Michael Rowland joked.

To which Armstrong replied: "Disc. I said disc."

But the panel struggled to contain their amusement.

"Yes, that's what I thought you said," added Rowland.

Footage of the hilarious gaffe was instantly clipped up and thrown on social media.

The clip itself instantly gained traction with hundreds of Aussie tagging their mates in the comments section or re-sharing the video.

Little mistakes like this must happen all the time for news readers, but this one in particular is pretty damn good.

That said, Armstrong handled it like a true champion.
