David Warner Smashes Record In IPL

A respectful knock from David Warner in the IPL has seen the Aussie hit a huge milestone overnight.

Playing for the Delhi Capitals, Warner smashed an unbeaten 60 against the Punjab Kings with the knock seeing Warner pass 1,000 runs against the Kings.

Warner has now become only the second player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to do so against a single team.

The Capitals won the clash by a thumping nine-wickets despite New Zealand import Tim Seifert testing positive to Covid-19 just hours before the match at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium.

Lead by Rishabh Pant, Delhi put on a terrific performance to bowl out Punjab for 115 after electing to field first and then overhaul the target in 10.3 overs.

Left-arm spinner Axar Patel stood out with figures of 2-10 as he took the key wickets of England big-hitter Liam Livingstone (stumped for two), and Punjab top-scorer Jitesh Sharma, lbw for 32.

Openers Prithvi Shaw, who hit a 20-ball 41, and Warner smashed the bowlers to all parts of the ground in an opening stand of 83 in 39 deliveries.

The left-handed Warner went on to register his third successive half-century and his 53rd in the tournament. He hit 10 fours and one six in his 30-ball knock.

While Warner was all praise for his bowlers' post-match but also was pleased with his current run of good form.

"Form is temporary, class is permanent," Warner said post-match when asked about his resurgence.

"I think the bowlers did a fantastic job and made it easier for us. We had to go hard in the powerplay during the chase. It was a different surface compared to the last night, but credit to our bowlers. Was grateful that we were able to get out of our rooms and play tonight.

"For me it's about sticking to the basics, and I tried to put my best footwork forward, hopefully I'll be able to do going forward. My kids just want to know why I cannot get hundred like Jos (Buttler) does. It's great that the little ones around the world keep watching this game."

The league matches in the tournament are being played across four venues in Mumbai and Pune, with 50 per cent capacity crowds allowed inside stadiums.
