Mohammad Rizwan has been hailed as a "warrior" after it was revealed he was in hospital just 48 hours before Pakistan's T20 World Cup semi-final against Australia.

A photo has now emerged online of the Pakistan wicketkeeper fast asleep lying in a hospital bed, connected to all sorts of wires.

It's understood he spent two days in an intensive care unit due to a severe chest infection

Then, just 48 hours later, Rizwan went on to hit 67 off 52 balls during Pakistan's T20 World Cup semi-final against the Aussies.

With the bat-in-hand, Rizwan combined with teammate Fakhar Zaman for a crucial 72-run partnership in the middle overs to help Pakistan register a 4/176 lead.

It looked more than enough to get the team over the line and into the finale, but Australia - lead by Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Wade - managed to chase down the score with just a single over to spare.

The image has since surfaced on social media showing Rizwan in hospital just a few days before his courageous performance.

"Mohammad Rizwan developed a severe chest infection on 9th of November after which he was admitted to the hospital," Pakistan's team doctor Najeebullah Soomro said.

"He spent two nights in the ICU recovering. He made an incredible recovery and was deemed fit before the match.

"We can see his great determination and tenacity that shows his spirit of performing for the country. And we can see how he performed today.

"The decision regarding his health was made by the whole team management. This was regarding the morale of the whole team and therefore we kept it within the team."

Fans have heaped praise on Rizwan for even stepping foot on the oval again, let alone producing a brilliant individual outing.

"This is a warrior," Pakistan batting coach and former Australian Test star Matthew Hayden said Massive, massive respect to him.

"He's been brilliant through the campaign and he's got great courage."
