Stealing a car is never a genius idea in the first place.

But stealing a UFC fighter's car? Well that's just down right insane.

A would-be car thief in America probably had no idea at the time that he was about to nick a vehicle which belonged to a professional mixed martial artist.

Had he of known the car belonged to UFC welterweight Jordan Williams, he probably wouldn't have bothered.

Jordan Williams.

CCTV footage shows Williams springing into action to stop a petty criminal from getting away with his car at a local shop.

Williams can be seen running out of the convenience store when he notices the man acting suspicious in the parking lot.

The thief then gets into Williams' car and tries desperately to reverse.

Thinking on his feet, UFC star Williams - who also happens to be wearing a fannypack - manages to catch up to him in no time before flinging open the door and launching an attack of his own.

In an attempt to stop the thief from escaping, Williams fires a few knee shots in the bloke's direction before throwing him out of the car door rather effortlessly.

The man, clearly licking his wounds after the ordeal, obviously didn't fancy a scrap and decided to run away from the scene instead while grabbing his forehead.

"Someone tried to steal my car today," he said on Instagram alongside a video of the incident.

"If you are wondering why my car was still on its the same reason why he couldn't drive away, I have a push to start and my car won't go unless the keys are within 5 ft of it and I have them on me always. Needless to say my lesson was learned and I hope so was his.

"Wish I would of hit him with the trip after the clinch work when I tossed him out of the whip, and finish off with some ground and pound but I'll settle with getting my car back

"Also I know you see the stillness of that fannypack, fannyback game was on point this could be a commercial for them."

Incredibly, the clip shows that the criminal mastermind actually left his hat behind too.

It's unknown whether police are investigation the matter, although the would-be car thief has probably learned his lesson by now.
