Conor McGregor's Coach Accidentally Reveals His Biggest Tactic For Dustin Poirier Fight

Revealing secrets from the gym is a cardinal sin in the mixed martial arts world.

John Kavanagh is one of the most well-spoken people in the sport of mixed martial arts.

But even he must realise that he's had an absolute shocker here.

Just a matter of days before Conor McGregor's highly-anticipated bout against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 in Abu Dhabi, the Irishman's head coach has done the one thing you shouldn't do before a big fight: Give away your tactics.

That's right, Irish mixed martial arts guru Kavanagh has accidentally spilled the beans on what McGregor has been working on in the gym ahead of his rematch with Poirier.

And the second he realised what he said, Kavanagh instantly regretted it and even asked ESPN's Ariel Helwani if he could "cut that out" during the editing process.

"Myself and Conor kind of joked that the part you look forward to, it's kind of weird, is that the fight will be over," Kavanagh told Ariel Helwani's MMA Show.

"We'll be back on the super yacht, we'll be heading to Dubai, and we'll all be sitting around staring at our phones watching the highlights back.

"He'll be pulling it apart, but also enjoying it - enjoying the techniques, the sequences.

"Let's see if some of the predictions we made amongst ourselves about what will be the damaging shots [come true]. Will training mostly in orthodox stance for this whole camp have paid off?"

Then silence.

You could see the cogs churning in Kavanagh's head as he slowly realised what he'd just said on a live Zoom interview.

With the slip-of-the-tongue still clearly on his mind, he then stuttered and mumbled as he tried to move on from the topic - but he just simply couldn't.

So before he could continue on with what he was saying, Kavanagh quickly said to Helwani: "Take that away, take that away. Can you cut that out?"

To which Helwani responded: "Yes."

Unfortunately for Kavanagh, veteran mixed martial arts reporter Helwani wasn't a man of his word and the entire interview was posted on YouTube just hours later.

Nightmare for coach Kavanagh.

Jackpot for Helwani.

Despite being posted late at night in the United States, the video has already clocked over 200,000 views with many people flocking to comments section to discuss the momentary lapse in concentration.

The red-faced Kavanagh will probably lose some sleep over the brain snap.

As for McGregor, we shall have to see whether he actually switches to orthodox from the southpaw stance after all.

Regardless of what he does, you can still bet your bottom dollar that it's going to be an electrifying fight between two of the UFC's biggest stars.
