Dak Prescott Released From Hospital After Season-Ending Compound Fracture

Dak Prescott has been released from hospital following surgery to repair his ankle.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback suffered a season-ending compound fracture during his team's 37-34 win over the New York Giants at AT&T Stadium.

Prescott was seen leaving the field in tears as footage of the horrific injury quickly emerged on the big screen inside the stadium - and it wasn't long before it flooded social media too.

While the initial pain of the shattered ankle looked excruciating at the time, Prescott and the Cowboys franchise then faced the nervous wait to see the true extent of the damage.

And doctors later confirmed the worst.

It was revealed that the 27-year-old would require surgery to fix his compound fracture, thus ruling him out for the entire NFL season.

According top multiple reports, Prescott has now gone under the knife and has since been released from hospital.

The awful news tops off the nightmare year for the Prescott family.

In April, it was confirmed that Dak's brother Jace had committed suicide following the death of their mother.

Since then, the Cowboys star has openly spoken about his ongoing battle with coming to terms with his sudden death resulting in him starting to experience depression himself.

"We are all heartbroken for Dak and this very disappointing injury," Dallas Cowboys owner JerryJones said in an emotional statement.

"The outpouring of messages that I have received regarding his setback speaks volumes to the respect and admiration that he has earned from his teammates, former Cowboys players and Cowboys supporters everywhere. I know this young man very well. I know the personal hardship and strife that he has faced, dealt with and overcome in his young life.

"And I know of no one who is more prepared, from the perspective of mental and emotional toughness and determination, than Dak Prescott to respond and recover from this challenge that has been put in front of him. He is an inspiration to everyone he touches. He has all of our love and support. And we have no doubt that he will return to the position of leadership and purpose that he brings to our team."

The Cowboys will now be without their two-time Pro Bowler for the rest of the NFL season.

Former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton is expected to fill the gaping void left by Prescott.
