Gruesome Leg Snap Leaves NFL Quarterback's Foot Facing The Wrong Way

GRAPHIC WARNING: The still images are bad, but the video itself is awful - if you're squeamish look away now.

Kyle Allen is facing a lengthy stint on the sidelines after his foot was left facing the wrong way during the Washington Football Team's 23-20 loss to the New York Giants.

Scans confirmed that the Washington quarterback suffered a dislocated ankle and a small fracture in his leg following a collision with Giants safety Jabrill Peppers.

While his actual foot was sticking out at a peculiar position, Allen somehow - rather miraculously - avoided a compound fracture.

With just one minute left in the first quarter, the ball was snapped to Allen on first down and he was quickly blitzed by the Giants defence.

The rushing Peppers was the first man to reach the quarterback, but as he was blocked by Washington's running back Antonio Gibson be took a tumble.

Clearly off balance, Peppers went crashing into Allen's leg.

The contact saw Allen's left leg get caught underneath his body and his foot instantly snapped under the pressure.

Team medics rushed to help out as the former Carolina Panthers backup was carted off the field and sent to hospital.

While it's still unknown how long he'll be out for, you can imagine it'll be a while unfortunately.

As for Washington, they replaced 24-year-old Allen with former first overall pick Alex Smith - who himself has seen his fair share of potentially career-ending injuries.

Back in 2018, Smith also suffered a compound fracture in his leg which later evolved into sepsis.

Smith underwent a total of 17 surgeries in a bid to save his leg from amputation and finally made his long-awaited return to the football field in October of 2020.

Despite eventually losing the game against NFC East rivals the Giants, 36-year-old Smith threw for 325 yards and completed one touchdown pass.
