Superbike rider Matheus Barbosa has sadly passed away after a horror crash at the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Tributes have come flooding in for the talented 23-year-old, who died after losing control of his bike during a sharp turn.

Video emerged online of Barbosa battling to keep his bike on course before it piled into the surrounding race barriers at uncontrollable speeds.

Barbosa, who rides for Kawasaki, was actually in fourth position at the time of the horrific incident.

Event medics rushed in to help but it's understood he died on the scene not long after.

The race was subsequently suspended with 10 laps to go.

Barbosa's tragic passing sent shockwaves around the motorsport community as the Superbikes organisation released a statement saying: "The nearest medical team reached Matheus in less than 60 seconds but despite all their efforts he succumbed to his critical injuries.

"The cause of the accident is still being investigated.

"Out of respect to Matheus, and above all his family, the remaining day's activities were immediately cancelled."
