The Melbourne Storm well and truly put the Warriors to the sword over the weekend.

With a scoreline that read 70-10 at full-time, there was clearly a few standout performers donning purple that night.

But it seems one person has received particular attention for his display of blistering speed during one of the tries.

And no, it wasn't one of the players.

An NRL ballboy has become an overnight cult hero for keeping pace with Storm star Jahrome Hughes as the halfback broke through the line of defence to score a runaway try.

The opening try of the game came less than 10 minutes into the game when Melbourne fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen scooped up a loose ball on his own try line.

He then passed it off to his colleague Hughes who ran the length of the field before grounding the ball.

It was a spectacular show of speed, but it was nothing compared to the young lad running down the sideline.

When footage of the try emerged online after the clash, eagle-eyed fans noticed a fresh-faced, blonde-haired teenage ballboy somehow managing to keep up with Hughes as he stormed towards the try line.

Still not quite sure why he did it, but nevertheless, it made for spectacular viewing.

Naturally, what followed was a bunch of hilarious memes as fans flocked to social media to heap praise on the youngster - some even urging Storm boss Craig Bellamy to whip up a contract for the kid.
