They've only gone and done it.

The Penrith Panthers have won the 2021 NRL Grand Final.

The boys from western Sydney have completed the fairytale redemption story, shaking off the heartache from last year's finale defeat to down the South Sydney Rabbitohs 14-8.

For the Wayne Bennett and the Bunnies, they fell agonisingly short at the final hurdle.

As for the Panthers, it's the first time the team has lifted the coveted Provan Summons trophy since way back in 2003.

In a cagey first half, it was Penrith who drew first blood thanks to a Matt Burton try in the in the 16th minute.

Souths hit back just four minutes later through a superb solo effort from Cody Walker.

With the scores locked at 8-8 at half-time, it was all to play for in the second half.

An intercept try from Stephen Crichton saw the Panthers take a huge lead before Alex Johnston crossed the line which gave the Bunnies the chance to level things up.

In his final game for the club, Rabbitohs junior Adam Reynolds had a conversion kick from the corner in the dying embers of the match.

You couldn't write this stuff.

Unfortunately for Reynolds, and the Bunnies faithful, his kick sailed just wide of the posts and Penrith maintained their two-point lead to secure a historic victory at Suncorp Stadium.

Souths peppered the Panthers defensive line late on, but - as has been the case the whole season - Penrith stayed strong and ground out a result.

What. A. Game.
