Daniel Cormier could join fellow ex-UFC star Ronda Rousey in making a switch to the WWE.

The 41-year-old former two-division champ recently retired from the sport following his loss to Stipe Miocic in their trilogy heavyweight title bout.

But while the bright lights of the UFC octagon are now behind him, it appears another combat promotion is eager to snap up the former Olympic wrestler.

According to reports from Wrestling Observer, WWE president Vince McMahon is keen on signing DC.

While McMahon's main goal is to have Cormier join the WWE's commentary team, it's understood his role would be flexible so it could allow him to enter the ring when called upon too.

Cormier's transition would see him follow in the footsteps of former women's bantamweight champ Rousey who became an instant fan favourite among WWE fans after her decorated UFC career came to an abrupt end.

But it appears a conflict of interests between two of America's biggest television broadcasters could stop the deal dead in its tracks.

"I got an offer to work that new show, WWE Backstage (Fox Sports)," Cormier explained.

"Obviously, it didn't work with the new relationship with ESPN (the UFC's broadcaster).

"But we are constantly trying to get me involved in the product.

"As a big time fan of the WWE, nothing makes me happier."

While broadcast rights are proving troublesome in striking a deal, the UFC and WWE appear to have a decent working relationship with multiple stars crossing over to pursue careers in the other.

Cormier's long-time training partner and former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has also made an appearance in the WWE.

Meanwhile, DC's former rival Brock Lesnar is a product of the multi-million-dollar wrestling organisation.

On the flip side, CM Punk also made the transition from the ring to the cage - although he didn't experience nearly as much success as Lesnar.
