UFC icon offered bizarre fight with Floyd Mayweather but was only allowed to use one MMA move

Floyd Mayweather was in talks to fight a UFC legend in a bizarre, hybrid boxing and MMA showdown.

Mayweather fought UFC superstar Conor McGregor during his legendary boxing career.

He beat the 'Notorious' to record the 50th victory of his professional career in a money-spinning Las Vegas clash.

And 'Money' almost got his hands on another UFC legend until talks broke down.

According to Georges St-Pierre, he was offered a mixed-code bout against Mayweather by a promoter, who proposed a 'fair compromise between boxing and MMA'.

But the pair failed to strike an agreement on a set of rules, with the compromise only allowing 'GSP' to use spinning back fists.

"There was a promoter that wanted to organise it," revealed St-Pierre, who reigned over the UFC welterweight division at the peak of his powers.

"The way they described it, it was a fair compromise between boxing and MMA against Floyd Mayweather.

"I was retired and was like 'You know what, this one, I'm interested'. Then he flew in, I was in Austin, Texas.

"He flew in on a private plane, he landed and I said 'What is the deal?'

"He said, 'It's boxing fight but in an octagonal ring'. I'm like 'Okay, but what's the rules, what's the compromise?'

"'It's an Octagonal ring, and you're allowed to do spinning back fists'. I'm like 'Wow, that's not really a fair compromise. Allow me to throw kicks'.

"He was like, 'Oh, he's never going to accept that. I said 'Okay, kicks higher above the belt.'"

The Canadian added: "'No, no, it's not going to work'. I said, 'Okay, then allow me to throw him down'.

"'Oh, he's never wanted to go to the floor'. I'm like 'I'm not saying go to the floor, I'm saying throw him down. Take him down and then we stand back up'.

"And he's like, 'No, no'. I was like 'you don't allow me to use my legs, use my takedowns, I'm not talking about going to the ground, just my throw'.

"Forget it because it's a trap, I'm not that stupid. He said, 'Okay, I'm going to get back to you'.

"They went and talked to, I guess, Floyd or one of his representatives and then it didn't work."
