Floyd Mayweather's Exhibition Fight With Don Moore Cancelled After The Death Of The UAE's President

Floyd Mayweather's Exhibition Fight With Don Moore Cancelled After The Death Of The UAE's President

Mayweather was due to fight Moore in Dubai on Saturday.

Floyd Mayweather's exhibition fight against Don Moore has reportedly been cancelled following the death of the president of the United Arab Emirates.

Mayweather, 45, was due to make his return to the ring against Moore on the helipad of the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai on Saturday.

Former five-weight world champion Mayweather was expected to earn an eight-figure sum for facing his old sparring partner.

But the fight has reportedly been called off after the UAE announced a three-day suspension of work following the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who has passed away at the age of 73.

The UAE's ministry of presidential affairs has also announced a 40-day period of mourning, which begins on Friday.

Boxing promoter Sarah Fina, who is promoting a fighter on the undercard of the Mayweather's ring return, claims the event has now been called off.

She posted on Instagram: "Entire show cancelled! President of UAE passed away today! This is so crazy!"

The undercard was also due to feature UFC legend Anderson Silva, former two-weight world champion Badou Jack and former women’s lightweight champion Delfine Persoon.

There is not yet been official confirmation that the event has been cancelled, nor if Mayweather's fight with Moore will be rescheduled for a later date.

Mayweather is also yet to confirm if the fight is off but took to Instagram on Friday to send his condolences to the UAE following the death of Sheikh Khalifa.

"Sending my condolences to the entire UAE," he wrote.

"RIP Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed."

Mayweather has not fought professionally since beating Conor McGregor in 2017 to extend his pro record to 50-0.

Since then he has beaten Japanese fighter Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition bout in 2018, before facing YouTuber-turned-boxer Logan Paul in a non-judged fight in June.
