Floyd Mayweather Rips Into Canelo Alvarez In Stinging Press Conference

Floyd Mayweather Rips Into Canelo Alvarez In Stinging Press Conference

Floyd Mayweather held a press conference with his protege Gervonta Davis and he ended up laying into Canelo Alvarez.

Floyd Mayweather has ripped into Canelo Alvarez, accusing the Mexican of "picking and choosing" his fights and claiming he "cooked" him inside the ring.

Canelo is widely deemed to be the best boxer on the planet right now by multiple outlets and organisations and recently became undisputed middleweight champion when he stopped Caleb Plant in Las Vegas last month.

He is now attempting to make history by becoming a five-weight world champion by stepping up to cruiserweight to challenge Ilunga Makabu for his WBC strap, providing the Congolese overcomes his mandatory, in his next slated bout.

The only man to beat him inside the squared circle is of course Mayweather, who bested a 23-year-old Canelo via majority decision in 2013.

'Money' believes Canelo does not deserve the credit he receives and claims their light middleweight clash was "easy".

"But, you take a guy like Canelo (Alvarez), this guy can pick and choose who he wants to fight," Mayweather said in a post-fight presser following his protege Gervonta Davis' win over Isaac Cruz.

"And I’m going to tell you all the truth about Canelo. “That mother f**ker easy, man. Cakewalk. Easy. Y’all sitting up here praising this dude. This dude was nothing. I was almost forty years older when I cooked this dude. Easy.”

Speaking prior to this weekend's fight, 15-time world champion Mayweather had said Canelo is a "hell of a fighter" but had some strong thoughts on the 31-year-old's latest weight step-up.

He believes Canelo is ducking two-time WBC super middleweight champ David Benavidez.

"So, if he’s going up to quote, unquote cruiserweight, I mean, if that’s the case, Benavidez is gonna go up and beat that same guy," Mayweather told BoxingScene.

"He could beat that same guy at 168. So, he’s not doing nothing, you know, like I said before. But when you are put in a certain position, he should be, I mean, he’s able to like me, you know, when I was in a position, I can pick and choose who I want to, because I earned that right. But do I like this fight? Uh-uh. Absolutely not. We wanna see Benavidez. Let’s make it happen.”

Continuing his feud with Canelo years after they locked horns, Mayweather also banned Davis from wearing his rival's "No Boxing No Life’ gloves.
