Boxing legend Mike Tyson has given his honest thoughts on the UFC pay dispute which has seen the likes of Jon Jones retire from MMA.

UFC president Dana White and former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jones were embroiled in a bitter public spat over pay.

Jones wanted a bigger purse to move up to heavyweight for a super-fight against top contender Francis Ngannou.

Tyson, who's set to make a boxing comeback, has now weighed in on the pay situation in the UFC and claimed Jones would need to fight him to earn a huge purse.

"Listen to this, UFC is more popular than boxing, right? Higher ratings, right?" He told Charlie Mack.

"But a UFC fighter will never be richer than a first-class fighter."

The 53-year-old added: "To make a $100 million, Conor [McGregor] had to fight Floyd [Mayweather]. Jon Jones got to fight me if he wants to make some super money."

Last month, Tyson spoke glowingly about Conor McGregor's boxing debut.

"He never really had a boxing match in his life, right. He went 10 rounds with the greatest fighter in the last 100 years of boxing," he said.

"He went 10 rounds, scored punches on the greatest boxer in the last 100 years.

"Did he do something? Did he accomplish something? People should look who he had the fight against and look what he did when he fought against him."

The retired UFC superstar responded to his praise by making a promise.

"Thank you Mike, and just know that for the inevitable rematch, with the knowledge I now hold of Floyd's style, plus under the tutelage of my old school boxing coach, I will crack the puzzle, and I will beat Floyd. I promise my life on it. It is great to see you back Iron Mike," he wrote on Twitter.
