Eddie Hearn has sent Tyson Fury a clear message as the Gypsy King edges closer to a rematch with Deontay Wilder.
Following on from their controversial draw on 1st December, the WBC called for a rematch between the 33-year-old American and the 30-year-old Brit.
While initial reports suggested that an agreement had been reached between the Bronze Bomber and the Gypsy King for a rematch, the bout between the two boxers has not been made official yet.
Now, Hearn has said that he hopes Fury doesn't commit to a rematch clause in their second fight, mainly for how it would stop a unification match from taking place with Anthony Joshua in 2019.
"I pray that Fury doesn't commit to a rematch because he doesn't have to in the purse bid," he said (via the Independent). "If he does that, he's mad because it will kill the Joshua fight should he win.
"In that respect, it's better for us if Wilder wins the rematch, especially if Joshua fights Miller in America in June. That starts making the $50m offer that Wilder made Joshua [last year] look like peanuts.
"AJ against Wilder last September might have done 300-400,000 pay-per-view buys in the States. Now it does over a million.
"Part of that is down to Wilder and we give him that respect, now it's down to what we do over there to amplify that."
Wilder, who holds the WBC Heavyweight Championship, has recently expressed his desire for a unification match to take place before the end of 2019.
"I am willing to fight him," he told Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "This is not us; they know what we want.
"If we can't come to [an] agreement, there will be no fight. I'm moving on with my career. I can't wait around.
"The world knows I tried [to fight Joshua]. They are trying to milk the people in the United Kingdom. But after the next fight, I'm willing and I am ready. I'm always ready.
"There will be one champion, and there will be one face. He goes by the name of Deontay Wilder."
AJ's promoter has already revealed that the 29-year-old Brit will most likely face Jarrell Miller next at Madison Square Garden, with a deal for the bout being in the final stages.
If AJ does make his USA debut against the 30-year-old American, then he could secure a record payday for the bout.
