KO Of The Day: Manny Pacquiao Puts Ricky Hatton To Sleep

Beloved Manchester hero Ricky Hatton was riding a two-fight win streak following his first professional defeat to Floyd Mayweather as he took on the legendary Manny Pacquiao. The fight was held at light-welterweight, a weight at which Hatton was previously undefeated. But Pacquiao inflicted Hatton with his first defeat at 140lbs inside two rounds via KO.

As per usual, fans flocked to Las Vegas, Nevada, to cheer on their fighter with around 25,000 Brits descending on the iconic strip, needless to say the MGM Grand Garden Arena was rammed come fight night.

The bout was an eagerly-anticipated clash combined with the Filipino's bid at boxing history as well as the threat posed by the Mancunian. Though Hatton proved to be overmatched. 'Pacman' was at his destructive best ending the world title contest shortly in ferocious manner.

Hatton was stalking his foe applying heavy pressure but was dropped twice in the opening round before eventually succumbing in the following round by a sharp and brutal overhand left.

The victory cemented Pacquiao's legacy as he became only the second boxer to win six world championships in six different weight divisions at the time, as well as claiming the Ring Magazine KO of the year for 2009. He would eventually make it seven world titles in seven weights after beating Miguel Cotto. Unreal.
