Amir Khan Gave The Bulk Of His I'm 'A Celebrity' Fee To Charity

Amir Khan Gave The Bulk Of His I'm 'A Celebrity' Fee To Charity

He's the highest ever paid contestant on the jungle survival show, but boxer Amir Khan has donated most of his £300,000 fee to Barnardo's.

Christmas isn't just a time for other people to buy you the things you don't want to buy yourself. It's the season of goodwill - the time of year when it's nice to give a hand to those less fortunate than ourselves.

Props, then, to Amir Khan. The boxer (and Olympic silver medalist) recently commanded the highest ever fee for starring in I'm A Celebrity! Get Me Out Of Here, banking a reported £300,000 to be stuck in the jungle with a bunch of animals and insects. And some wildlife, too.

But the 30 year-old has given a huge chunk of that to children's charity Barnardo's, for whom he's an ambassador.

Needless to say, Barnardo's chief executive Javed Khan was pretty chuffed. He said: "I am very grateful to Amir Khan for this fantastic gift and his continued support as an ambassador for Barnardo's, which helps thousands of vulnerable children, young people, carers and parents every year.

"It's exactly the generosity of people like Amir that make it possible for us to provide our network of vital services across the length and breadth of the UK. We wish Amir well in the jungle and will follow his progress."

People might have been giving Khan a hard time recently after he asked if there had ever been a female Prime Minister in the UK, but this gesture shows that while he may have been a little empty in the head when he said that, he's full of heart.

Khan, who was recently voted off the show, is the highest ever paid contestant to appear on the show, beating the former record held - well, received - by Katie Price, which is thought to be around £250,000. She has appeared on the show twice, though, so who knows if her total payment came to more.

On the low end of the pay scale this year is Made In Chelsea star Georgia 'Toff' Toffolo, who received £13,000 for her appearance. Not that she necessarily needs the cash, of course. But putting yourself through all that for that little seems like selling yourself a little short.

After all, that's less money you can give to charity at the end of it. Still, let's hope she and the other contestants follow in Khan's footsteps.
