Tommy Fury Reveals The Reasons For Backing Out Of Fight With Jake Paul

Tommy Fury Reveals The Reasons For Backing Out Of Fight With Jake Paul

Fury will not fight Paul, with Tyron Woodley stepping in for a rematch with the YouTuber at less than two weeks notice.

Tommy Fury has confirmed exactly why he's pulled out of his fight with Jake Paul, that was meant to take place in less than two weeks time.

After all the verbal sparring and amateur dramatics, Fury and Paul were eventually set to meet inside the ring on December 18th in Tampa, Florida.

However, on Monday, the American revealed that his British rival had pulled out of the fight due to 'medical reasons, calling him 'boxing's biggest b***h.'

Whilst the YouTuber was vague on details, and insinuated that it was merely the pressure of the fight getting to him, Fury has confirmed why he won't be fighting.

In a statement via promoter Frank Warren, the 22-year-old revealed that a chest infection and a broken rib had hampered his preparation.

"I am absolutely heartbroken that I have been forced to withdraw from my fight with Jake Paul due to a bacterial chest infection and broken rib," the undefeated Brit said.

"The beginning of my camp was going so incredibly and I never expected anything to come in my way from a victory on December 18th.

"I can't express how disappointed I am and I really do hope we can get this fight rescheduled in the new year. I want this fight to happen more than anything.

"I'm now regretfully putting my focus on recovery and a further reschedule date."

Paul, who is also undefeated after his four fights, though he has never fought a professional boxer in his career to date, is now set to take on Tyron Woodley.

The former UFC champion fought the YouTuber back in August and came closest to handing the 24-year-old the first loss of his career.

As well as taking his fellow countryman the distance, Woodley also rocked Paul amidst conspiracy theories that he failed to end the fight due to a clause in the fight contract.

Despite the upcoming rematch for Paul, Fury's promoter, Warren, is still hopeful of a future fight between the two undefeated boxers, who both made a name for themselves away from the ring first.

"We are gutted for Tommy," Warren said in his statement.

"This was a big opportunity for him to show the world what he can do. Unfortunately he's had to withdraw now he's clearly not anywhere near a hundred per cent.

"We'll be working with Jake Paul's team to see if we can reschedule for the new year."

Whether or not the fight ever takes place now remains to be seen, but if it does you know Paul will have plenty more ammo when they're trading insults.
