Pep Guardiola signs two-year contract extension at Manchester City

Manchester City have confirmed that Pep Guardiola has signed a two-year extension that will keep him at the club till 2025.

Pep Guardiola has signed a two-year contract extension at Manchester City, the club have confirmed.

The new deal will see the Catalan prolong his time at the Etihad Stadium till at least 2025, nine years on from when he first took over from Manuel Pellegrini.

During his time as Manchester City manager, Guardiola has led the Blues to four Premier League titles, four Carabao Cups, an FA Cup and the club's maiden Champions League final.

There was speculation ongoing around a possible two-year extension for Guardiola as the domestic season took a pause with the Qatar World Cup on the horizon.

Guardiola is reportedly believed to have held contract talks with Manchester City's hierarchy and is 'delighted' to extend his stay in Manchester beyond 2023.

“I am so pleased to be staying at Manchester City for another two years,” the 51-year-old said. "I can’t say thank you enough to everyone at the club for trusting me.

"I am happy and comfortable here. I have everything I need to do my job as best as possible.

“I know the next chapter of this club will be amazing for the next decade. It happened over the last ten years, and it will happen in the next ten years because this club is so stable."

The Manchester City boss believes there is no place better in world football to continue his journey as a manager, having led Barcelona and Bayern Munich to a vast trophy hauls in the past.

Guardiola added: “From day one I felt something special being here (at City). I cannot be in a better place.

“I still have the feeling there is more we can achieve together and that is why I want to stay and continue fighting for trophies.”

Having won an array of domestic titles under Guardiola, City are edging ever closer to breaking their European duck and ending their long-awaited capture of the Champions League.

Manchester City President Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: “I am delighted that Pep’s journey with Manchester City Football Club will continue.

"He has already contributed so much to the success and fabric of this organisation, and it’s exciting to think what might be possible given the energy, hunger and ambition that he clearly still has.

“Under his very special leadership, our first team has accomplished so much, whilst continuously playing, and constantly evolving, a City style of football that is admired the world over. Like every City fan, I am looking forward to what lies ahead.”

Guardiola is again leading City's challenge on multiple fronts this season following a stellar summer window that saw the Blues sign the likes of Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Manuel Akanji.
