Breaking: Pep Guardiola agrees Manchester City contract extension

Pep Guardiola has agreed a two-year contract extension with Manchester City, according to reports emerging on Tuesday afternoon.

The Catalan coach is entering the final few months of his existing deal, after penning a two-year extension back in 2020.

Despite intense pressure to shine light on his situation at the club, the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona coach remained tight-lipped.

However, with the club season pausing for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Manchester City officials and Pep Guardiola have been granted an opportune moment to sit down and discuss the next steps.

Over the course of the weekend, a decision was made with reports on Tuesday revealing the outcome.

According to the information of the Athletic, Pep Guardiola has now agreed a two-year contract extension.

This new deal will commit the manager to the club until 2025.

As per further information from the report, it is revealed that the deal will be structured as an initial one-year deal, with both club and manager holding an option for a further season.

That means either party could choose to end it sooner, should that be deemed necessary.

This will be the same structure as the deal Pep Guardiola signed in November 2020.

Further reporting from Jack Gaughan of the Mail states that Pep Guardiola is currently in Abu Dhabi with club officials.

It is stressed that the 51 year-old coach is also known to be happy in his role as Manchester City manager.

Those close to the Catalan believe he can continue delivering success to City, as per the Mail.

Speaking during a pre-match press conference prior to the World Cup, Guardiola was quizzed on multiple occasions about his Manchester City future.

Prior to the Premier League clash against Brentford, Guardiola said, "I don't talk about that, everything is under control.

"Together with the club.

He continued, "I said many times, I have the feeling the club and myself are happy together.

"After if we feel it both sides, we will see."

Manchester City return to competitive action on December 22 in the Carabao Cup fourth round against Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola is expected to have signed his new deal before the first-team squad return to full training in early December.
