At 21 years-old and with a single season of football as a left-back under Gomez’s belt, it is understood that Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff view him as a high-developmental signing.
Aside from bringing in a left-back, the Premier League champions have also been speculated with the addition of a midfielder, with Bernardo Silva touted for a move to Barcelona.
Despite reports mentioning names such as Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta and Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, Pep Guardiola shut down any speculation around any fresh faces set to join the club.

“If nobody moves, I think nobody's coming in," he exclaimed.
"Now I have the feeling that if we have a problem with Kyle (Walker) and Joao (Cancelo), we have players who can replace them.
"That's why Sergio (Gomez) comes. Even Nathan (Ake) can play there."

Pep Guardiola continued, "On the right (side of defence), you have Kyle, Joao, John (Stones) and maybe Rico (Lewis).
"We don't have a big squad but we have some players who play in different positions quite well.
"That's why the moment we decide for Sergio, the debate for another left-back was over," he revealed.
Unless Bernardo Silva ends up joining Barcelona in the coming weeks, it is now seemingly improbable that any transfer activity will involve Manchester City before the end of the summer window.
