Steve Smith Shocks Commentators After 'Extraordinary' Moment

As the test match between Australia and Pakistan rages on, Steve Smith has once again proven he’s on another level.

The Australian batsman was called to the crease early after dismissals of David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne inside three overs.

In typical Smith fashion, he found himself quickly in the zone.

However, in what was a mixture of aggression and focus, the Australian batsman left commentators shocked after picking up a reckless rover moving as the ball was being delivered.

The buggy was posited in deep mid-wicket almost 100 metres away, in what would normally be enough to be out of sight and not cause any distractions.

Yet, the former Australian test captain was clearly put off by the buggy as he gestured towards the rover in frustration following the ball. 

His response left the commentators amazed as they were left wondering how Smith even saw the buggy as he was waiting for the delivery.

Rob Key said on commentary: “How he’s seen that I don’t know. I mean, it’s on the boundary at deep mid-wicket and he’s not happy."

He continued: “It must have been his peripheral vision, but it’s a good hundred yards away I’d say. Extraordinary.”

Urooj Mumtaz also seemed astonished, saying: “I have never seen that before.

“One thing is for sure, Steve Smith has the best peripheral vision on the planet.” 

As the test heads into day two the match up seems evenly balanced after Pakistan made some serious headway through Australia’s top-order.

The early dismissals of Warner on seven runs and Labuschagne on a duck left the Aussies in some disarray early on.

The partnership between Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith steadied the first day up for the Australians, however, both were given their marching orders before stumps. 

19-year-old Naseem Shah has been one of the highlights of the game so far as he dismissed Steve Smith and Travis Head to really bring the game alive. 

Cameron Green and Alex Carey managed to see out the day as they finished on 20 and 8 runs respectively. 

Despite being the third game of a three-match series, the tie is currently tied at 0-0 after the first two tests ended in draws. 

This series also signals the first time Australia have toured Pakistan since 1998.
