The two heavyweights from the iconic Happy Gilmore film are keen to have another round of golf together.

Adam Sandler and Chris McDonald have both indicated they would be very happy to reprise their roles for a sequel.

Appearing on The Golf Channel's The Dan Patrick Show, the two stars of the movie were asked whether there had been any discussions in Hollywood about a project.

The Sandman shut down the speculation by saying there hadn't been any chatter about bringing a sequel to life, however did admit there has been a lot of hype on social media.

Considering the film is one of the funniest in Sandler's arsenal, it's no surprise that viewers are keen for him to come back as Happy Gilmore and face off against his rival, Shooter McGavin.

But when host Dan Patrick asked if they would sign up for the project if it was ever properly proposed, they both wholeheartedly said yes.

Sandler suggested the plot could revolve around the two characters competing on the senior golf tour, which is fitting considering Happy Gilmore came out 25 years ago.

It's clear the star of the movie hasn't lost his touch and recently showed off his Happy Gilmore skills to highlight the movie was hitting a quarter of a century old this year.

Sandler posted a video to social media of him hitting a gold ball in that iconic way and even called out Shooter McGavin.

He explained that he hadn't dusted off the famous move since the film, before approaching the golf ball and telling the camera: "I'm scared. Shooter McGavin, this is for you."

He added: "And I'm not lying to you that is smashed, smashed. That went pretty well. You're dead, Shooter."

As if the moment wasn't exciting enough, fans of Happy Gilmore were soon dealt a second delicious helping of nostalgia when Christopher McDonald - in character as Shooter McGavin - responded to Sandler's video by showing off his own putting prowess.
