And then there were two. England will be looking to end 55 years of hurt when they take on Italy under the Wembley arch in the Euro 2020 final on Sunday night.
Incredibly, despite some star-studded, talented squads over the years, the Three Lions have not reached an international final since their famous extra-time triumph over West Germany in 1966. But, this time, it's coming home.
Gareth Southgate's star-studded side will be cheered on by 60,000 fans at Wembley Stadium, some two-thirds of capacity - but the atmosphere still promises to be electric.
England beat Denmark 2-1 in the semi-final courtesy of an extra-time winner by captain Harry Kane and are on the brink of their first European crown - but it won't be easy.

Four-time world champions Italy - who last won the European prize back in 1968 - stormed into the final after edging out Spain in a penalty shootout. England will have their work cut out against them, too, especially considering the Azzuri are unbeaten in their last 33 matches.
With the final now on the horizon, our tipster Robert Mann takes a look at some of the best bets from England vs Italy to get your teeth stuck into.
England vs Italy betting tips & predictions
England are 6/4 to win, with Italy priced at 2/1 to come away with the victory. A draw is priced at 2/1.

Prediction: 1-1 (5/1)
Match result: Draw (2/1)
England and Italy have both shown their defensive qualities throughout the tournament and we reckon tonight's game is likely to be a cagey affair from the first to last whistle.
England needed extra-time to overcome Denmark in the semi-finals, while Italy were taken to extra-time by both Austria and Spain, and only beat the latter on penalties.
Advert
Intriguingly, three of the past six finals at the European Championships have gone to extra-time and we're backing the same outcome at Wembley.
First Goalscorer: Harry Kane (7/2)
Harry Kane has proved his doubters wrong with four goals in his past three matches after looking below his best in England's group matches.
Let's face it, Kane will have a serious battle on his hands against Italian centre-back stalwarts in Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci, but we're backing the skipper to thrive on just that.
Advert
Kane is one goal behind Patrik Schick of the Czech Republic, who in turn is one assist behind Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, who has five goals and an assist. Kane has no assists, but a brace of goals in the final would give him the prize. How's that for an incentive?
Request A Bet: Harry Maguire 1+ headed shots on target (3/1)
Central defender Harry Maguire showed what a threat he is at set-pieces on Saturday by heading home during England's second goal against Ukraine in the quarter-final.
We tipped up this same selection before England's semi-final triumph over Denmark and Maguire went on to have two headed shots on target.
Advert
For that reason, we're backing 'Slabhead' to show his presence in the air again and odds of 3/1 look far too juicy to miss out on again.

England team news
Thankfully, no players have reported injuries after coming through the gruelling semi-final against Denmark, manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed.
As a result, Southgate is expected to name an unchanged side for the Euro 2020 final.
Southgate only made one change during the 90 minutes which ended with the game tied 1-1, replacing Bukayo Saka for Jack Grealish in the 69th minute.
But he made three more in extra time, bringing Jordan Henderson on for Declan Rice and Phil Foden for Mason Mount. Fresh legs for tonight's final will be paramount to it coming home, that's for sure
Italy team news
Roberto Mancini could very well name an unchanged starting line-up, despite his side putting on an enthralling showing against Spain last time out.
Without star performer Leonardo Spinazzola, lost to injury in the quarter-final win over Belgium, Italy surrendered a little of their forward thrust and were the happier to reach a settlement by penalties.
But the Azzuri still boast an incredible attacking threat, especially in Ciro Immobile and Lorenzo Isigne and England will have to be wary of just that.
