Manchester United take on Villarreal in the Europa League final on Wednesday

Manchester United take on Villarreal in the Europa League final on Wednesday - with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking to win his first trophy in charge.

It's four years since United lifted the trophy under Solskjaer's predecessor Jose Mourinho, and it would be their sixth major European trophy.

Villarreal, in contrast, are looking to win a first European prize other than the now-defunct Intertoto Cup, which they claimed in 2003 and 2004.

After a painful run of four successive semi-final defeats, the Premier League runners-up finally ended that particular hoodoo despite a second-leg defeat in an 8-5 aggregate goal-fest against AS Roma and will now look to finish the job in the northern Polish city of Gdansk on Wednesday night.

But standing in United's way is a Villarreal side managed by three-time Europa League winner Unai Emery - an expert in this competition who masterminded a triumph over former club Arsenal to ensure that there were not two major all-English finals in Europe this year.

Manchester United vs Villarreal betting tips & predictions

Manchester United are 4/5 to win, with Villarreal priced at 18/5 to come away with the victory. A draw is priced at 12/5.

Prediction: 3-1 16/1

Both teams to score: 10/11

United are huge favourites, but will be wary of a Villarreal side who have won 12 and drawn two of their 14 matches in reaching the final.

And with superstar strikers in both sides including the likes of Gerard Moreno and Edinson Cavani, we expect this to be a game full of goals.

To score anytime: Edinson Cavani 5/2

Edinson Cavani has given United's attack an extra dimension since his arrival at Old Trafford and never was that more evident than in the semi-final first leg against Roma.

United were trailing 2-1 at half-time in that match, but Cavani scored twice and set up two goals in a 6-2 victory that all but sealed his side's place in the final.

The Uruguayan forward's return of nine goals in his past 10 matches will not surprise anyone who is familiar with his career tally of more than 300 goals for Palermo, Napoli, Paris Saint-Germain, United and Uruguay.

Correct score: Manchester United to win 3-1 16/1

Experience could hold the key for United, with the likes of Cavani, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, and Bruno Fernandes all used to playing Champions League football.

Villarreal cannot be underestimated but United may have more know-how and certainly more of a cutting edge.

Solskjaer's men have beaten Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Burnley by a 3-1 scoreline in the second half of the season and we're backing them to win by that score at a huge price of 16/1.

Manchester United team news

Solskjaer has rotated his squad over recent weeks to cope with a hectic fixture pile-up and with one eye firmly fixed on this final.

Making ten changes for the final day 2-1 Premier League win at Wolves - featuring a goal from highly-rated teenage winger Anthony Elanga - with second-place long since wrapped up.

Captain Harry Maguire remains a major doubt due to an ankle ligament injury that has seen him miss the last four matches, though he was included in the 26-man travelling squad announced on Monday.

Anthony Martial and Phil Jones - both out with knee injuries - will not travel, though midfielders Scott McTominay and Fred are both fit.

Villarreal team news

Villarreal could welcome back Spurs loanee Juan Foyth and winger Samuel Chukwueze for their first major European final appearance.

Former Leicester City midfielder Vicente Iborra remains sidelined with damaged knee ligaments and has not played since December.

Meanwhile, ex-Spurs and Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue is available after being suspended for the semi-final second leg against Arsenal.
