A Tier List Of World Cup Teams Ranked From ‘Favourites’ To ‘Tourists’ Is Causing Huge Debate

Every country taking part in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar has been ranked from 'favourites' to 'tourists' in a controversial Tiermaker created by Brazilian TV channel Sportv.

We are just five months away from the opening game of this winter's competition.

On Monday November 21, Senegal will take on Louis van Gaal's Netherlands' side in Group A, before hosts Qatar come up against Ecuador at the Al Bayt Stadium.

With the Nations League in full swing and club football taking a back seat for the time being, plenty of people are discussing who will come out on top at this year's World Cup.

Tite's Brazil are the bookies favourites to lift the famous trophy in December, while France, Spain, Argentina and England – who have struggled in recent weeks – are also in the mixer.

But what do the fans think? Well, a big debate has been happening on Reddit in recent hours after a TierMaker was broadcast on Brazilian show Sportv this week.

The categories of the tier list are as follows:

  • Green: Favorites
  • Orange: Candidates for the trophy
  • Yellow: Can surprise
  • Red: Tourists/On holiday

Here's how the Reddit community reacted to the image.

One fan said: "One tourist will win a group and one favorite won’t make it out of their group. Seems to happen every world cup and I love it," while another wrote: "Okay, I'm cheering for Canada but I have a hard time believing they will finish above Belgium and Croatia."

A third commented: "If the Brazilians haven't lost faith in France or England over their Nations League performance, neither should you."

A fourth wrote: "Yeah I mostly agree but bump Germany down imo. I guess Hansi Flick could surprise though."

England's chances at the World Cup have been somewhat hampered by their recent form in the Nations League, and former France international Emmanuel Petit Petit isn't convinced Gareth Southgate's side can go all the way.

"It is always the same story with England," he told SPORTbible. "You always put them as contenders, but they always miss something in the end.

"I don’t know if it is because of the management or because of the players, but sometimes I think they can't manage the pressure they receive.

"When they reach the last stage, you can feel the pressure on some players. Physically, the body language. Maybe it is because of that."

Petit added: "There are so many young players in the national team that are doing a great job for their clubs, like [Phil] Foden, [Bukayo] Saka, [Mason] Mount. They are great players but they are still young. They probably need more experience.

"When I remember the games in the World Cup and the Euros – in the final they were playing at home and you could feel the pressure. You could feel that it was too much for some players."

Do you think England can go all the way? Thoughts on the above TierMaker?
