Spurs fans appear to 'protect' Aaron Ramsdale attacker in shocking new footage

Spurs fans appear to 'protect' Aaron Ramsdale attacker in shocking new footage

Arsenal's 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday was marred by the incident.

Tottenham Hotspur supporters appeared to protect the man who kicked Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale at the end of Sunday's north London derby.

An own goal from Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and Martin Odegaard's long-range effort in the first half was enough to seal victory for the away side, who moved eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Full-time scenes involving Gunners goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale marred the contest. A man wearing a face covering ran down to the advertising hoardings to kick Ramsdale as he picked up his water bottle.

Sky Sports cameras picked up the incident during their coverage, although what happened to the fan afterwards was unknown.

The man in question made his way into the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium crowd and his identity is yet to be established.

New footage from the incident has since been released, which shows two individuals standing in front of him as he hides from security.

As the ground begins to empty, he makes his way out undetected after giving his coat and scarf to a friend. Spurs have vowed to ban the fan, while the Metropolitan police confirmed it had received a report of an assault.

Check out the new footage below.

Ramsdale was named Player of the Match after making several vital saves in the second half. He exchanged words with Spurs striker Richarlison, who is always keen to get involved.

The 24-year-old addressed being kicked by the supporter, who luckily didn't make much contact.

He said: "The Spurs fans were giving me some and I gave them some back.

"The few people I did do that to was well greeted [by them] and sportsmanship-like and then I’ve had someone jump over and give me a [kick] on the back. It’s a shame as it’s just a game of football.

"Both sets of players had to bring me away. Thankfully, nothing drastic happened, and it’s a sour taste. I’m sure we’ll enjoy it when we go back to the dressing room."

Arsenal are now favourites to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004. They were aided over the weekend by second-place Manchester City's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.

Mikel Arteta's side face United on Sunday in a huge first-versus-fourth battle at the Emirates Stadium.
