Alejandro Garnacho Returns To Pre-Season Training Early, Despite Being Allowed Three-Week Break

He may have been entitled to a three-week break after playing for his country, but Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho has decided to return to pre-season training early.

The highly-rated teenager, who turns 18 on Friday, last played for Argentina U20's on June 10 in a fifth place play-off win against Japan at the Toulon Tournament.

He was given the option of an extended leave as a result, but the 17-year-old is clearly keen to impress new manager Erik ten Hag ahead of the new campaign.

Ten Hag, who took charge of his first training session at Carrington on Monday, has already told senior staff at Old Trafford that he intends to fast-track Garnacho's career at United, according to The Mirror.

It has been a year to remember for the Argentine, who signed from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2020.

He was handed a surprise call-up to Argentina's 44-man squad ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Ecuador earlier this year.

And back in April, he came on to make his Manchester United debut in the latter stages of their Premier League clash against Chelsea after an impressive campaign with the youth team.

Not only did Garnacho play a key role in helping Manchester United reach a historic FA Youth Cup final after scoring in a 3-0 win against Wolves, but he bagged a brace against Nottingham Forest as they lifted the trophy in front of 60,000 fans.

United have reportedly offered Garnacho a six-year deal in a bid to keep him at Old Trafford and he is set to be part of Ten Hag's plans next season, according to The Mirror.

Back in March, the 17-year-old forward opened up about life in Manchester.

“I’ve been living here now for 18 months with my family, my parents and my brother,” he said in an interview with Manchester United's official channel.

“We’re really happy here and we like Manchester and the town where we are living a lot, as well as the people here, too. "We’re very happy living here and we’re also very grateful to the club for the way in which they welcomed us and helped me so much when I first got here. We couldn’t be happier.”
