Dani Alves' Reaction To Being Left Out Of Barcelona's Europa League Squad Revealed

Dani Alves' Reaction To Being Left Out Of Barcelona's Europa League Squad Revealed

Dani Alves won't be playing European football this season.

Xavi's decision to cut Dani Alves from Barcelona's Europa League squad has upset the player, according to a revealing report.

The La Liga giants were busy during the January transfer window, snapping up Ferran Torres, Adama Traore, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang not to mention Alves.

But UEFA rules set out that a team can only include THREE new players in their European squad after the winter market.

So, Xavi was left in a predicament following an active transfer window having left it late to secure the services of Traore and Aubameyang.

Both attackers made the Europa League squad, along with Torres - with Alves missing out.

According to Spanish outlet SPORT, Alves was left upset over the omission and didn't 'take the call particularly' well.

The report adds that the Brazilian is said to be very grateful to the club for bringing him back to the Camp Nou.

But the 38-year-old is disappointed to have missed out on the opportunity to help his side in Europe.

As a result, Alves will only be able to play for Barca in the La Liga - with Xavi's team currently occupying fifth place, one point behind fourth-placed Atletico Madrid.

As for their European venture, Barcelona take on Napoli in the tie of the round following their Champions League elimination.

Alves, meanwhile, has played four games in all competitions since returning to Barca.

Of course, the decorated right-back enjoyed a trophy-laden eight-year spell from 2008 to 2016, winning a host of silverware including three Champions League titles.
