Things go from bad to worse for Everton after Andre Ayew joins another club, it's getting desperate

Everton's transfer situation has gone from bad to worse after top target Andre Ayew snubbed a move to Goodison Park.

It has been a disappointing month for the Premier League strugglers. They tried and failed to bring in a host of attacking options last month, including Kamaldeen Sulemana, Arnaut Danjuma, Ismaila Sarr and Odsonne Edouard.

The Toffees also made an ambitious £45 million bid for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, who was not interested in a move to Sean Dyche's side.

Many fans were understandably frustrated with their business in January but a move for former West Ham and Swansea forward Andre Ayew appeared to be on the cards until Thursday, when reports emerged that the 33-year-old free agent turned down the Toffees after holding discussions.

Ayew has instead agreed a six-month deal with newly-promoted Nottingham Forest, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The experienced striker, who is already in the UK to complete a medical at the City Ground, will become Forest's 30th signing of the season following the arrivals of Jesse Lingard, Morgan Gibbs-White and Neco Williams, amongst others.

Steve Cooper managed Ayew during his time as Swansea boss and the Ghanaian helped them reach the Championship play-offs in consecutive seasons.

In the past, Cooper described Ayew as a "top player".

Everton, meanwhile, are yet to sign a single player this year as they battle relegation.

As a result of their lack of spending, Toffees fans were seen protesting outside Finch Farm after the deadline passed on Tuesday.

A group of supporters called for the resignations of owner Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright by holding up banners and homemade signs.

The inability to replace Anthony Gordon, who signed for Newcastle last month in a £45 million deal, has also caused frustration.

That being said, Everton fans are thrilled with the mentality of midfielder Amadou Onana after the midfielder captioned a series of training photos: "Said what I said and did what I did #Aintleavingtheship #AO8."
