Chelsea bid over £40 million for Everton youngster Anthony Gordon

Chelsea bid over £40 million for Everton youngster Anthony Gordon

The Everton forward is clearly highly rated by Thomas Tuchel as the Blues make a huge move for the 21-year-old.

Chelsea have had a near £45 million bid turned down for Everton forward Anthony Gordon, but could return with an even bigger offer.

It's been a busy summer of transfers at Stamford Bridge under new owner Todd Boehly, who is also acting as director of football for the transfer window.

He has brought in Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Crucella and Carney Chukwuemeka but he has shown no signs of slowing down.

The Blues are being strongly linked with Wesley Fofana, even if Arsenal fans aren't happy about it, as well as a move to steal Frenkie de Jong from Manchester United.

But the spending isn't even stopping there, with the west London side strongly linked with Gordon, and they've now made a bid for the 21-year-old.

According to the Telegraph, the bid on Monday was around £45 million but was rejected by the Toffees, with the Londoners expected to come back with a bid closer to £50 million.

Everton have previously been staunchly against selling their academy graduate, who has been accused of diving on several occasions, including last weekend.

However, Frank Lampard is in desperate need of a new striker, with Gordon having started the first two games of the season as a number nine.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin injured for several weeks, and Richarlison having joined Tottenham Hotspur this summer, the manager is seriously short of options upfront.

A boost of £50 million could allow him some money to go out and buy a more experienced player, whose natural position is actually as a number nine.

Chelsea's desire to sign Gordon, who spent part of 2021 on loan to Preston North End, comes from wanting to add the best young English talent to their squad.

Thomas Tuchel is also expected to lose some of his wide players in the final two weeks of the transfer window, with Callum Hudson-odoi, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic all potential departures, whether temporary or permanent.

The Blues dropped their first points of the season on Sunday, in the highly controversial draw with Spurs, having twice led.

Over 100,000 fans of the club signed a petition to stop Anthony Taylor refereeing any more of their games, after the Manchester born official allowed both Spurs goals.
