Apple 'consider bid' for Premier League rights amid Sky Sports, BT and Amazon dominance, fans are divided

Some fans are open to Apple shaking up the status quo, while others don't want to sign up for another service to watch the Premier League.

American tech titan Apple is weighing up the possibility of challenging Sky Sports, BT and Amazon for the Premier League TV rights, according to stunning reports.

The Premier League rights were extended in 2021 in a whopping £5.1bn deal, which covers matches from the 2022-23 season to the 2024-25 campaign.

Sky, BT and Amazon will continue to cover the rights of the Premier League until 2025, with BBC securing rights to broadcast highlights for Match of the Day.

However, football fans will be set back by over £100 a month if they sign up for the aforementioned trio of services in a bid to watch Premier League matches.

US publication Bloomberg is now reporting that Apple is ‘considering bidding’ for the Premier League streaming rights.

According to reports, the American company could secure rights for some matches from both England’s top-flight domestic league and the English Football League.

“Game-changer,” one fan simply said.

Someone else argued: “If every single Premier League match is going to be available, I back it. Otherwise, no.”

“How many more subscriptions will I need to watch my club? For the love of God, NO,” a third Twitter user wrote.

Another commented: “Great another subscription service to budget for.”

“We don’t need another platform 1-2 max, man,” one fan tweeted.

While a sixth posted: “This just makes perfect sense to me.”

According to The Times last month, the Premier League’s TV rights could surpass the £10bn mark over the next three seasons.

It is believed that the international TV deals for the Premier League could help bring in £5.3bn from 2022 to 2025.

The newspaper added that a further £5.1bn could be brought in from domestic deals, which could reach a total of £10.5bn in the UK via commercial partnerships.
