'I would love to' - World Cup star hints at January move to Arsenal

'I would love to' - World Cup star hints at January move to Arsenal

He certainly seems keen.

Arsenal are interested in signing Orlando City star Facundo Torres, according to reports.

The Gunners are in the market for a winger, after being unable to complete a deal for Mykhailo Mudryk, who joined London rivals Chelsea at the last minute.

But Mikel Arteta has wasted no time in seeking a replacement, turning his attention to Uruguay international Facundo Torres.

The 22-year-old joined Orlando City from Penarol for a club-record fee last January, where he has hit the ground running.

Torres has scored nine goals and provided 10 assists in 33 appearances, helping his side to lift the U.S. Open Cup title.

He also was a part of Uruguay's squad at the World Cup, although he remained an unused substitute.

Now the winger has hinted at a move abroad, less than a year after joining the MLS club.

Torres: "I would love to"

Torres has been linked to Arsenal, with the North London side seeing him as potential backup to Bukayo Saka, according to GOAL.

The player has now confirmed that he has spoken with the league leaders about a possible move.

He told 90min: “Orlando City confirmed to me that there was contact with Arsenal, but then I left for the World Cup and I didn’t want to hear about a potential transfer at that point.

"So the conversation stayed there but now that I am back with the team, we will see where the conversation goes.

"I would love to play in Europe. It’s a dream I’ve had since I was a kid. At the moment I am focused on Orlando City. But La Liga or Premier League would be my targets, and that’s where the rumours are coming from. But yeah, I would absolutely love that."

Arsenal have also been linked with Barcelona winger Raphinha, after trying to sign him from Leeds last year.

However, journalist David Ornstein has played down their chances of signing the Brazilian, claiming that Raphinha would not push for a move away from Barcelona, having only signed for the club last summer.

Ornstein said: "Already you’re seeing reports around Raphinha, who they went for last summer.

“My understanding is that his priority is to remain at Barcelona despite their financial position.”
