Arsenal Fans Attempt To Drown Out Liverpool’s Anthem 'You’ll Never Walk Alone' At Anfield

Arsenal fans did their best to drown out Liverpool’s iconic anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ ahead of their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Anfield.

Arsenal held Liverpool to a 0-0 draw on Thursday night despite playing much of the match with 10 men, after midfielder Granit Xhaka was shown an early red card.

The tie remains delicately poised ahead of the return leg at the Emirates on Thursday and Arsenal’s visiting fans were clearly delighted with their players after they managed to restrict Liverpool to a handful of chances in the 90 minutes.

The away end was in fine voice throughout the game and footage has emerged of the visiting fans attempting to outdo Liverpool’s famous atmosphere ahead of kick-off.

The video, posted on Twitter by football.london journalist Chris Wheatley, shows the Liverpool players walking out of the tunnel to ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

As the home support begins to sing the anthem, boos can be heard from the away fans in the Anfield Road stand.

Cries of ‘Arsenal, Arsenal’ can be heard as the two sets of fans attempt to drown each other out, creating a thunderous reception at Anfield.

It would be the Arsenal fans who would head home the happier at full-time after seeing their side produce a gritty performance under difficult circumstances.

Speaking after the match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised his players for their “fight” after losing Xhaka early on.

“I’m really proud of what we did today in an extremely difficult stadium, against a great opponent and playing 70 minutes with 10 men,” Arteta said.

“When you come to a stadium like this, I said to them you have to pick players who are happy to go to war. You are going to have difficult moments when you suffer.

“If you are willing to help your team, willing to accept that in some moments you are not going to play the game you want, then good things are going to happen.

“When you play with that spirit, fight and brotherhood around the team, in the end you get rewarded. That is what happened today.”
