"People in Barcelona seem to think..." - Journalist drops major update over Arsenal transfer target

A journalist has dropped a major update on the future of Arsenal target Ferran Torres.

A journalist has dropped a major update on the future of Arsenal target Ferran Torres.

Arsenal are in the market for another attacker in January, with Ukraine wide-man Mykhailo Mudryk said to be the club’s number-one target.

However an injury to £45million summer signing Gabriel Jesus, suffered while the Brazilian was at the World Cup, has sparked Arsenal's need for an attacker that can play centrally.

In turn, Arsenal are said to be interested in Barcelona and Spain forward Ferran Torres.

As reported yesterday, reputable transfer journalist Dean Jones claimed that Arsenal “clearly believe” Torres will be available for transfer in January, after Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez gave the green light to the 22-year-old’s departure.

However, Jones has claimed Torres is still unlikely to move to Arsenal.

Torres to Arsenal?

Though the Spain international has been linked with a move to the Emirates, Jones claimed that people in Barcelona do not expect the player to depart the Camp Nou in January.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the journalist said: “My personal feeling is that I can’t see him leaving Barcelona yet. It seems like people in Barcelona seem to think this, too.

“Is he really going to give up on a club like that so quickly? Probably not. But if he’s told he doesn’t fit in at all and he has to consider something else, then Arsenal’s a great backup plan right now.”

Torres only signed for Barcelona last January, and in his 44 outings has netted 12 times and provided seven assists.

The Spain star also has Premier League experience, having briefly plied his trade at Manchester City. Under Pep Guardiola the forward registered 16 goals and four assists in 43 appearances but struggled for regular game time.
