Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard names three things Jakub Kiwior must do to become a regular starter

The Norwegian has offered his advice.

Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard has revealed what new signing Jakub Kiwior must do to become a regular in the side.

Mikel Arteta added Kiwior to his squad in January to help provide competition for left-sided centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes.

All parties are said to have entered a 'gentleman's agreement' in order to keep the deal under wraps.

He was awarded a start during Arsenal's Europa League first leg against Sporting Lisbon. Although it wasn't the smoothest of rides, with the contest finishing 2-2.

Only time will tell whether Kiwior will return to the starting 11 for the second leg on Thursday evening.

But Odegaard, who has established himself as a key component of Arteta's title charge this season, has outlined the steps Kiwior must take to become a regular.

Odegaard offers Kiwior advice

Odegaard reckons learning the language is one of three things that will help his development.

"Another positive from the first leg for us was Jakub Kiwior making his debut," Odegaard told Arsenal's website.

"It was great for him to get his first minutes with us because he's been training really well since he joined.

"So for him to play his first game from the start, in a big occasion like that, was a great opportunity for him and you could see his qualities.

"I'm sure he will just get better and better now, especially when he understands more of what we're doing, builds those relationships on the pitch with the rest of the team and develops the language too," the Norwegian added.

Arsenal have a crucial home advantage for the second leg, as Arteta seeks to reach the quarter-finals.

Although the majority of Arsenal fans' focus remains on the Premier League, and Odegaard admitted that it's difficult to switch between competitions.

"All we know is that we play at home tonight, and if we win, we’re through, so that’s our target," Odegaard continued.

"It’s our first European tie since the start of November, and although I don’t think it’s difficult to switch focus from the Premier League to Europe, it’s true that the routines are different."
