Journalist who broke major Willian story has exciting Mudryk news

A journalist who previously broke news about Willian in 2021 has given a big update over the status of Arsenal's move for Mykhaylo Mudryk.

A journalist who previously broke the news that Willian was terminating his Arsenal contract in 2021 has given a big update over the status of a move for Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Mudryk, who is currently contracted to Shakhtar Donetsk, has been the subject of heavy interest from Mikel Arteta's side.

They have had two bids rejected for the winger, with the second believed to be totalling £62 million, including add-ons.

But Shakhtar want to receive a fee higher than the £86 million Manchester United paid to sign Antony this summer, club director Darijo Srna previously told The Athletic before the bids were made..

The 22-year-old has also received interest from Chelsea, with Srna and another Shakhtar director reportedly travelling to London last week for talks with the Blues.

However, Arsenal are, it appears, nearing the finish line in the race, with Foot Mercato's Santi Aouna and Sport Arena's Yehor Danylov the first to break the news on Monday that the two clubs were 'close to agreeing' a deal for Mudryk.

Now, another journalist has given a further update on exactly how close Shakhtar and Arsenal are to concluding negotiations over the winger.

Journalist gives Arsenal/Mudryk update

In 2021, ESPN journalist Jorge Baravalle claimed that Willian's contract had been terminated at Arsenal, ending a one-year spell at the club.

Those claims proved to be correct, with the Brazilian leaving the Gunners before joining Corinthians.

This time around, Baravalle has offered an intriguing update on Mudryk - claiming that the deal will be done.

He tweeted: "Mudryk will be an Arsenal player. Arteta is left with one of the jewels of European football."

The 22-year-old has already hugely impressed on the European stage, earning a standing ovation from none other than the Real Madrid faithful when he put in a superb performance against them in the Champions League in 2021.

The player has seven goals and seven assists to his name in just 12 Ukrainian top flight appearances, with Shakhtar having now returned to training ahead of the conclusion of the league's winter break.

Mudryk has been pictured in training - but it remains to be seen for how long he will still be a Shakhtar player.
