"A liability" - Rio Ferdinand names one Arsenal player attribute he doesn't like

"A liability" - Rio Ferdinand names one Arsenal player attribute he doesn't like

Rio Ferdinand believes one Arsenal player needs to improve.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has pinpointed an attribute he believes Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes needs to improve on.

Gabriel has been part of the Gunners side that tops the Premier League after 10 games played. He has started all of those games, and scored the winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Fulham in August.

The Gunners defeated Leeds 1-0 on Sunday, but the Brazilian almost made a costly error.

He fouled Patrick Bamford in the Leeds area, giving away a penalty. To make matters worse, he was then shown a straight red card by referee Chris Kavanagh.

Fortunately for the Arsenal defender, however, VAR decided to reverse the penalty award.

Speaking after the game, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said: "In the second half, we did not make the right decisions and put ourselves in big trouble.

"But I liked the resilience, the fight, the character, and you could see that on show."

The Bamford incident occurred off the ball - something Ferdinand has been critical of.

Ferdinand explains where Gabriel needs to improve

Speaking on his YouTube channel, 'Vibe with FIVE', Ferdinand said of Gabriel: "Your centre-backs, you don't want them to be spoken about a lot in the games. You just want an eight out of 10 every game.

"But every week, he's in the headlines with a little bullet point next to his name, and a bad incident.

"I don't know if you want to replace him. That energy, as much as we call him a liability, he's performing. Time will tell if he's someone you want to stick by. I don't like emotional defenders, but if he can grow out of that, you have a good player."

Gabriel and Arsenal are next in action on Thursday, when they host PSV Eindhoven in a re-arranged Europa League clash.

They then travel to the St. Mary's Stadium to take on Southampton, looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
