Arsenal legend Thierry Henry targets vacant managerial job after 'turning down France'

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry could soon return to management.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has turned his attentions to another vacant managerial job after turning down an approach to take over the France women's national team, according to reports.

French Football Federation (FFF) committee member, Jean-Michel Aulas, claimed he asked the 45-year-old whether he would be interested in replacing Corinne Diacre as the head coach of the women's team.

After three players - including captain Wendie Renard - announced they would be stepping back from the national team ahead of the Women's World Cup, the FFF held a hearing, which resulted in the recommendation that Diacre be dismissed.

Diacre hit back, claiming in a statement through her lawyers that she was the victim of a 'violent and dishonest smear campaign', as per Sky Sports.

Aulas, who is also the owner and president of Ligue 1 side Lyon, stated to French outlet La Figaro that Henry had told him he did not wish to take over the national team as Diacre's replacement.

However, new reports claim that the Arsenal legend is eyeing up another role.

Henry 'interested in vacant managerial role'

According to ESPN, as per sources, Henry is interested in taking up the vacant United States men's national team role. The contract of its previous incumbent, Gregg Berhalter, expired at the end of 2022.

US Soccer have recently completed an investigation into allegations of domestic violence and assault against Berhalter from 1992, and have confirmed that he is eligible to re-apply for the role should he decide to.

Henry coached Montreal Impact in Major League Soccer between 2019 and 2021, guiding them to the MLS play-offs in his second and final season.

The Frenchman then resigned from his role, citing a desire to return to London to spend more time with his children as a result of Covid-19 travel restrictions.

When asked by CBS last month about the USMNT vacancy, Henry replied that he is keen to get back into management after working as an assistant to Roberto Martinez with Belgium.

The US hosts the 2026 World Cup, and the Gunners legend may have the opportunity to lead them in that tournament should he get the job.
