Hugo Lloris drops huge clanger as Arsenal take the lead against Tottenham Hotspur

The North London derby is underway with Arsenal leading

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris made a huge mistake to gift Arsenal the lead in the North London derby.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side were on top from the get-go as they looked to score the opener.

Lloris produced an initial mistake in the seventh minute but made up for it by making a fine save to deny Eddie Nketiah.

However, in the 14th minute, Lloris was punished for a piece of questionable goalkeeping.

The ball was swept out to the right-hand side beautifully into the path of Bukayo Saka who drove into the Spurs penalty area.

Saka then unleashed a tame effort towards the near post, Lloris got his hands to it but only managed to divert the ball into the back of his own net.

A truly embarrassing moment for the 2018 World Cup winner as Arsenal take the lead in the derby.

Fans were quick to react to Lloris’ howler.

One said: “Hugo Lloris is actually shocking.”

Another tweeted: “Why couldn’t Hugo Lloris chuck one in his own net at the World Cup?”

A third fan added: “Hugo Lloris, your time is up at Tottenham Hotspur.”

Someone else wrote: “Frozen in Hugo Lloris’ embarrassment.”

Arsenal continued to dominate as the half went on as Spurs looked slow and lethargic.

Eventually, Arsenal made it 2-0 thanks to a stunning long-range effort from captain Martin Odegaard.

The Gunners went into the interval with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

This North London derby is a must-win for Arteta's men as they look to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points after Manchester City were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs meanwhile are looking to close the gap to fourth-placed United, they are currently five points off Erik ten Hag's side and a victory will take them within two points of the Red Devils.
