"We go there..." - Arsenal star makes bullish North London derby claim ahead of Tottenham clash

Mohamed Elneny is confident Arsenal will beat Tottenham when the two sides meet in the North London derby this weekend.

Spurs host their bitter rivals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, with 11 points currently separating the two teams in the Premier League.

Arsenal still have a five-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the table despite being held to a goalless draw by Newcastle in their last league game.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are fifth – two points off the top four – after thrashing Crystal Palace 4-0 in their last league outing.

Both sides head into this weekend's match off the back of victories in the FA Cup third round, with Tottenham edging past Portsmouth 1-0 and Arsenal beating Oxford United 3-0.

Eleny confident of North London derby win

Elneny was on the scoresheet against Oxford and the midfielder says Arsenal are in a good place heading into the derby.

"We knew that today was very important for us to win because we have a derby in the next game, and we go there with the confidence to win away from home and we’re into the next round," said Elneny, after the win over Oxford.

"We know it's a special game for all of us in the derby, and we go there full of confidence and we’ll go for three points.

"We knew it was going to be a tough game today because for [Oxford] it is one game of the season and it is something big for them.

"That's why they gave everything in the game, and we had to manage this and come here to win to go through to the next round."

Elneny's goal was his first for Arsenal since the 2020-21 season and the Egypt international was happy to contribute on a rare start for the Gunners.

"We dominated the game and everything but we just couldn't score. We corrected some things and then in the second half, we did it and won the game," he said.

"Of course, I'm happy to score and help my team to win the game. For me it's special because this club means a lot to me and to score for this club is something really, really good."
