Jurrien Timber will only join Arsenal if three 'demands' are met as Gunners submit opening bid

Jurrien Timber will only join Arsenal if three 'demands' are met as Gunners submit opening bid

Timber has already laid out his demands.

Ajax star Jurrien Timber has already stated that he will only move clubs this summer if three demands are met, amid interest from Arsenal.

The Athletic reported on Monday that Arsenal had submitted an opening bid of £30 million to sign the 22-year-old centre-back.

This was backed up by Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, who added that the Gunners had already agreed personal terms with the Netherlands international. Ajax, however, are seeking a fee of £50 million.

Timber moving to Arsenal would represent a further blow to Manchester United and manager Erik ten Hag, who tried to bring the young defender to Old Trafford last summer.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Ajax star turned down a reunion with Ten Hag in favour of remaining at the Amsterdam ArenA until at least the 2022 World Cup.

Now, however, he could be making the move to Mikel Arteta's side instead, as they look to build on a strong second-placed finish in the Premier League last season.

But they will need to meet several demands outlined by the player himself in order to finalise a deal.

Timber 'demands' outlined to Arsenal

Speaking to Dutch outlet Ziggy Sport earlier this season over a potential move, Timber stated that he would judge any potential move away from Ajax on three separate criteria.

"For me, it is the same situation as last season," he began (quotes via Voetbal Primeur). "If I say, 'I'm leaving', it has to fit.

"Playing style is important, playing minutes... Participating in the prizes [trophies] is also important.

"My favourite country? I dare not say that.

"That's why I'm doing the same as last season. The chance is there, it can happen, but I'm also good here. I'm still young and everything suits me here. I'm going to take a look."

Arteta's playing style is one of the most positive and offensive styles in the division, while Timber would compete for a place in the team at both centre-back and right-back. And Arsenal will hope to once again compete for big trophies next season.

Speaking to Helden Magazine (via Sport Witness) last summer, meanwhile, Timber stated he may find it difficult to resist a move to Manchester City - a warning no doubt picked up by Arsenal chiefs.

He said: "I play for the prizes here [at Ajax]; there is no better place to be. Ajax was always my dream club; I also slept under an Ajax duvet.

"I plan to stay here for a while. But if Manchester City calls, what should I do?"
