Arsenal player set to leave in January as Gunners 'give green light' for move

Arsenal player set to leave in January as Gunners 'give green light' for move

Mikel Arteta is willing to let him go.

Arsenal winger Marquinhos is set to join Norwich City on loan for the rest of the season, according to reports.

The 19-year-old moved to the Emirates from Sao Paulo last summer in a deal worth around £3million. However, he has struggled to force his way into the team, managing just six appearances since his arrival.

His only competitive goal came in the Europa League during Arsenal's 2-1 win over FC Zurich Switzerland. He also found the net in the Gunners' 4-2 defeat to Watford during a friendly in December.

Mikel Arteta was reportedly keen to send the Brazilian on loan to gain some more experience, so long as they signed another forward.

And having signed Leandro Trossard from Brighton earlier this month, the Gunners boss is willing to let him leave, with a medical already scheduled in East Anglia.

Marquinhos to Norwich

Journalist Ryan Taylor reports that Marquinhos will join Championship side Norwich for the remainder of the season.

Taylor tweeted: "Arsenal winger Marquinhos joining Norwich City on loan for remainder of the season.

"Gunners have given 19-year-old Brazilian green light to travel to East Anglia for medical. Deal likely to be completed in next 24 hours."

The Canaries currently sit sixth in the league table, just inside the play-off spots, but only on goal difference.

Norwich boss David Wagner will hope that Marquinhos' quick feet can help them climb up the table as they push for promotion to the Premier League.

And The Evening Standard report that there could be further departures, with Arsenal loan manager Ben Knapper set to find some moves for other youngsters before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

Meanwhile, Arteta is still hunting further midfield recruits, with the Spaniard keen to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton.

Caicedo addresses Arsenal bid

Last week, Caicedo issued a public statement asking Brighton to allow him to leave this January.

The 21-year-old wrote: "I am grateful to Mr. Bloom and Brighton for giving me the chance to come to the Premier League and I feel I have always done my best for them. I always play football with a smile and with heart.

"I am the youngest of 10 siblings from a poor upbringing in Santa Domingo in Ecuador. My dream always to be the most decorated player in the history of Ecuador.

"I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful.

"The fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in my heart so I hope they can understand why I want to take up this magnificent opportunity."
