Stunning report claims Arsenal are now favourites to sign 'dangerous' player wanted by Man Utd

Stunning report claims Arsenal are now favourites to sign 'dangerous' player wanted by Man Utd

This would be a major transfer statement.

Arsenal are now favourites to sign Victor Osimhen, who is also a Manchester United target, according to a fresh report.

On Saturday Arsenal claimed a dramatic 3-2 victory over Bournemouth, courtesy of a 96th minute Reiss Nelson winner.

The win keeps the Gunners’ title charge on track, with Mikel Arteta’s side still five points clear of reigning champions Manchester City.

Indeed, the club are now just 12 games away from winning their first title since the Arsene Wenger’s Invincible side 19 years ago.

Arsenal have also been attempting bold moves in the transfer market. In January they were in hot pursuit of Mykhailo Mudryk, only for Chelsea to hijack a deal for the Ukrainian winger, while the north Londoners also submitted a pair of bids, worth up to £70million, for Moises Caicedo, both of which were rejected by Brighton.

It now appears Arteta’s side have turned their attention to the striker position.

Arsenal favourites to sign Osimhen

Italian outlet Rai (via the Sun) have claimed Arsenal are leading United in the chase for Osimhen.

The Nigerian has netted 21 goals in all competitions for a Napoli side 15 points clear at the top of Serie A, on course to win their first Scudetto since 1990.

United are widely reported to have the striker, described as “dangerous” by Italian journalist Gianni Visnadi, on their summer wishlist and are thought to be favourites to sign him.

However Rai claim the Gunners have overtaken United in the race for the 24-year-old.

It is alleged that Napoli will demand an eye-watering £133million for Osimhen, which would shatter the £106million Premier League transfer record set by Chelsea in January, when they signed Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.

Indeed, such a fee would be almost double the Gunners’ transfer record which was set in 2019, when the Gunners paid £72million to sign Nicolas Pepe.

Yet the Telegraph previously reported that Osimhen would cost £100million.
