Arsenal star 'interested in joining PSG' - he would be a huge loss

PSG are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal defender William Saliba - but the defender remains locked in talks with the Gunners over a new deal.

Saliba has been in incredible form for Mikel Arteta's side this season, starting every game in the Premier League.

He has been part of a Gunners defence that has conceded just 11 goals - the joint-best defence in the league alongside Newcastle.

The France international is quick off the mark, comfortable on the ball and able to use his strength to his advantage, making him one of the most complete centre-backs in the division currently. He also has two goals to his name.

His form has resulted in a World Cup call-up, with reports claiming last week that Saliba could start for Didier Deschamps' side in their opening game of the tournament.

Saliba's contract does expire in the summer of 2024, but The Athletic report that the club have opened talks over a new, improved deal.

But the 21-year-old reportedly has interest from elsewhere.

PSG keen on Saliba

According to French outlet Sport.fr, as per CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs, PSG want to sign Saliba from Arsenal to boost their defence.

The outlet claims he 'would be very interested in the Parisian project'.

Such a move would be a major blow to PSG's fierce rivals Marseille, for whom the centre-back played for on loan last season.

Speaking about Saliba's successful loan spell last season, Arteta said in August: "Obviously, it's always something that you have to see, spending a year away from here in a completely different league.

"But playing the amount of minutes that he played and the way you could see he was growing and developing, he gave us a lot of reasons that he could be the player we need."

Fabrizio Romano, however, claimed last week that the player is strongly considering Arsenal's contract offer, and the Gunners are confident of keeping him at the club.

Whether the reported PSG interest puts a spanner in the works - or is simply just agent talk - remains to be seen, but Gunners fans will be desperate to see Saliba stay at the club.
